Dear Skybet,
Thank you for your email.I was previously restricted to 1% of stakes of other customers when placing bets online. Can you confirm if this restriction has now been fully removed i.e if I can place the same size stakes as other customers online? Thanks.
Regards.

Dear Skybet
Thank you for your reply. Can you confirm if I will be able to get the same stake sizes online as I have been previously able to get by phones. In the past I have been restricted online to 1% of the stakes other customers are able to place.

Dear Skybet,
Can you explain why this decision to not allow me to bet my telephone has been taken? If this for all customers or just myself?
Regards.

Dear Mr Trinder,
We have made some changes to our service. With regret we have taken the business decision to stop your access to our telebet service. As such, from today your account has been set up to accept online bets only, which means that if you call our call centre you will be directed to either www.skybet.com, www.skybet.mobi or our interactive TV service to place your bets. You will only be able to place whatever the system indicates is the maximum stake for your chosen selection.

You can log on to the services with your existing user ID and a PIN. If you don?t already have a PIN or need a reminder, please contact a member of our Customer Care team on 08000 725181.

Interesting.

Skybet do seem to have reviewed things downwards recently. Until a week or two ago, the "maximum bet" amounts displayed on their website stayed the same after I logged on, but now I too am offered only a percentage of the default maximum.

Thankfully they don't rate me as quite the same risk as you, but it's still irritating and surely reduces everyone's opinion of the company as a whole.

Hello Chris

Yes it's all bad news. I have online restrictions of 10% with skybet and Ladbrokes but worse situations with Betfred and Boylesports. The latter two will not offer me a bet of any description online and always refer me to their phone service. A different approach to skybet but the same end result - not getting on!

Just imagine how much worse it would be if betfair did not exist! Then bookmakers would have everything on their terms!

Here's a perfect example.

I called Ladbrokes today and asked for £40 Federer to win the 2010 Grand Slam at 12/1. (I was offered £4 online rather than £40 for Mr Mug).

Bet was referred to trading department by the telephonist and bet was ACCEPTED by trading.

Unfortunately the process had taken so long the telephonist's screen had to be refreshed and he had to go through the whole process again. This time though trading would only accept £10 declaring the £40 "must have been a mistake"!

I refused to accept this and the case is now "under investigation".

I then called skybet and asked for £30 at the same price (ignoring the £2.50 offered online). After some delay I was offered £20. which I accepted.

Is it all worth it, I ask myself, which of course is what they want me to ask myself...

I regularly place bets with SkyBet. As yet, I have not had a winner. I don't have much of a problem with stake limitation, however I had to complain about the van load of diaries delivered before Christmas.

Hi Chris

Don't wish to deluge you with comments, however I just thought you might like to know I had a letter from skybet this morning telling me I'm now limited to internet only. (Following the £20 telephone bet!).

Still waiting to hear outcome of Ladbrokes "investigation" - told I would get an answer in 48 hours - not the case....

I joined Bwin after reading your F1 selections. I deposited £150 and put on three £50 bets. My account is now 'closed' pending an investigation by their security team and won't be opened again until I send in photographs of my ID. Did you experience this??

God help people who want to put on bigger bets!

I don't remember experiencing anything like that..... although I did open my account a long time ago (it has been relatively dormant since).

i think this is common for euro bookies. I experienced the same when opening accounts at expect. Perhaps it's regulatory?

Skybet are a joke (lost four accounts within two months just for betting on a minor football league that they had no idea how to price up), I'm convinced they employ more bean-counters than actual traders.

Which is a shame because they're easy to beat, but also the hardest firm to get clean accounts with, due to the fact they don't allow moneybookers transactions.

If only they had a few shops...
